ARtist statement
Coming from a background in theatre design, my work revolves around an interest in imaginary spaces and is inspired by the land and seascapes that surround me; using stencilling and spray paint, these drawings aim to investigate ideas of presence and absence.
The stencils come from found and waste materials gathered in the landscape; using repetition, my work utilises textured multiple surfaces that become at once abstract and suggestive of a vista.
I am interested in the reductive aspect of making these works and the transformative occurrence generated by the repeated tactile gesture.
These works aim to create an immersive experience which refers back to theatrical imaginary space and backdrops.
